Professional Development for Teachers on School-Based Mental Health & Wellbeing

Afiya EAP delivers targeted professional development (PD) sessions for teachers in Islamic and Muslim-majority school settings, addressing the real-life mental health and behavioural challenges faced in the classroom and playground. Our PD workshops are designed and facilitated by experienced psychologists, clinical supervisors, and Islamic psychology experts, ensuring a culturally respectful and faith-informed approach.

Topics can be tailored to the school’s needs, but commonly include:

Recognising signs of student distress and early intervention. Supporting students through grief, loss, and community-wide crises

Classroom strategies for supporting students with anxiety, behavioural concerns, or trauma

Understanding how cultural and religious identity impacts student wellbeing

Responding appropriately to disclosures of harm or family difficulties

Promoting inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally safe classroom environments

Managing teacher stress, burnout, and maintaining emotional boundaries

Our Professional Development is interactive, scenario-based, and context-specific, ensuring it speaks to the needs of Muslim students, multicultural staff teams, and the faith-based school ethos. Sessions can be delivered virtually, and can be adapted for whole-staff training, leadership teams, or targeted cohorts (e.g. year coordinators or wellbeing department staff).

By empowering educators with practical knowledge and cultural insight, our PD supports stronger student-teacher relationships and a more compassionate school culture.
